"It's a huge burden on the system," said Leo Steven, the hospital's president and chief executive officer. Sunnybrook has treated half of Ontario's SARS cases since the outbreak last month, and has also handled many of Toronto's surgeries and patients requiring urgent care.
"This is going to be a major blow to us for 10 days, primarily for the patients who need the help," Steven added.
